Client Spotlight and Giveaway: Cathy Colangelo of Your Life Is Now

$

This is a post in my Client Spotlight series where I highlight ambitious women who have edited their lives and businesses with the help of my coaching programs. Please say hello to Cathy Colangelo!

Please Introduce Yourself and Your Business.

Hey there! I’m Cathy “Coco” Colangelo, and I’m the creator of Your Life is Now Coaching and Retreats for Women.

I help women organize overwhelming thoughts and ideas into a clear vision and inspired action steps so they can create the next chapter of their lives.

Before Life Coaching

I was a stressed out Human Resources manager who was operating in survival mode. My self-care consisted of sleeping, overeating, and crying.

I knew there had to be more to life, but since I had just gone back to school and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, I thought hanging on to the corporate ladder at all costs was what I was “supposed” to be doing.

Wasn’t this career what I had always wanted? Wasn’t my own office, a job title, and a corporate salary what I should have been striving for?

Before security had to escort me out, I made the decision to leave on my own. I took a step way back and got an office position at a private school. I needed to regroup and refocus on “what I wanted to be when I grew up.”

I needed to figure out what my next chapter would be.

On that journey (not to sound too much like The Bachelor), I discovered that there were people who believed in me and encouraged me to create a vision and keep going. They helped me see the possibilities and supported me as I grew stronger and did things I never thought I could do.

It was from there that Your Life is Now was created. I wanted to help other women see THEIR possibilities.

Now I’m Back, Baby!

I started by own business in 2007 doing workshops and private coaching. In 2009, I attended my first personal retreat. I was hooked. I knew that experience was something I needed to share with other women.

The Heavenly Retreat by the Sea was launched in 2011, and over the last 4 years I have been able to help other women rediscover, renew, and re-energize their spirits. October 2014 was the 4th annual retreat at which I was privileged to bring 10 women together for an empowering and inspiring weekend by the sea.

I’ve also become locally known for my humorous presentations on self-care, staying positive, and creating and manifesting visions. I am also a big believer in manifesting my dreams and visions, and one of the big dreams I’ve manifested is cohosting a local women’s television program called Women Today.

Starting a Business

After the HR debacle, I needed a break. Once I got my thoughts together, I knew that I had always loved helping others and I wanted to continue to do that in a positive way. I also knew that, at some point in my life, I didn’t want to have to work by someone else’s agenda.

When I discovered coaching, I felt like that would be a perfect fit. I could nurture and support other women in their self-discovery process.

My original tagline was “your life is in the palm of your hand.” We tend to believe that someone else is in control of our lives. In reality, we are in control. We just have to acknowledge that and trust in the process.

What Does an Average Day Look Like for You?

In addition to my coaching, I am also the executive director of a local non-profit that provides opportunities for students, educators, and businesses to work together in the community. It is just me, myself, and I. I wear many hats, so I don’t often have an “average” day.

That’s one of things Sage has been helping me focus on—making the best use of my time.

This is what my average day will look like after a little more tweaking: I’ll get up early and start my day with my own self-care practice (stretching, yoga class, or walking), then depending on the day of the week, I will either head into the office or work from home.

I block specific time for client coaching, creative writing, and administrative work. My schedule is fairly flexible and I can make it my own but I do make a conscious effort to get out and network at least once a week. That could be attending a planned event or just getting together at a local coffee house with someone to brainstorm a project or just catch up on our lives.

Having my own business and working alone at the non-profit can sometimes be a little isolating. One thing I absolutely know about myself is that I need contact with positive people. I get inspired and energized, and I love to laugh and connect with others. That’s why I make sure to do that at some point during the week.

What Routines, Habits, Beliefs, or Other Things Help You Live an Edited Life?

I wear a bracelet that says “Thoughts become things, choose the good ones.” I’ve been wearing it for years and any time I get in a funk, I look down at my wrist. If you don’t believe in anything, believe in that sentence. It has changed my life.

We do have control over our lives and our thoughts. We can make it or break it based on what we are thinking. “This day is going to suck.” Sure it is. “I can do anything.” Yes, I can!

I am also a big believer in manifesting our dreams and visions. If you’ve never made a vision board, you must! I’ve seen people (and myself) manifest amazing things into their lives.

However, manifesting is not magic. We have to take action on our own to get the energy flowing. We can have whatever it is we want but we need to take a step…sometimes it’s just a baby step…but we’ve got to do at least one thing to get us moving in the direction of what we want.

What I’ve Learned

One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the last few years is never to compare myself to someone else. I need to appreciate and love where I am now.

It’s never too late to make changes. You can do it anytime, anywhere. If you want to do something, do it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. That is their fear talking. Do it because YOU want to not because someone else wants you to do it.

I wanted to try standup paddle boarding. Yes, I might look silly wearing my glasses with my big sports band attached, and yes I might fall in (OK…I did fall in but that’s another story). I did it, and I’d do it again. However, I turned 50 this year and people celebrate by skydiving or getting a tattoo. I have no desire to do either and that’s OK.

I also know that I need to surround myself with positive people and energy. People come into our lives at certain times for a reason. They may stay or they may leave after a time. That’s OK. I am grateful for what they have taught me.

Working With Sage

I absolutely love working with Sage. I have had other coaches before but this is the first time that I have actually looked forward to the calls. Her energy and spirit keep me motivated and moving forward.

She has great ideas during our “brainstorming” sessions, and she helps me get clear on what I need to accomplish. I have made more progress in my business in the last few months than I have in the last few years. I look forward to continuing our work together.

An Edited Life: Jamie Molnar

An Edited Life is a series where I interview women Life Editors who are living their authentic stories. Please say hello to Jamie Molnar! I knew Jamie and I were going to be friends as soon as I saw her website–we have the same branding colors! Great minds think alike. :)

NOTE: Please read all the way to the end of this post because Jamie’s giving you free access to her upcoming coaching program (a $49 value!).

Welcome! Please introduce yourself and your business.

Thanks so much Sage–super excited to be here!

Hello ladies!

My name is Jamie Molnar, and I am a Balanced Living Coach for overwhelmed, overachieving career women.

I believe that modern women are expected to do way too much and be too many things: kickass career woman, amazing wife and mother, master chef, look like a Victoria’s Secret model….the list goes on and on.

The media blasts us with these expectations almost daily. But they are not realistic expectations. And I believe this is why women today are experiencing record-high rates of anxiety and depression. It is just not possible to be all those things every single day!

I am passionate about helping women break down these unreasonable expectations and pull back from their impossible quest for perfection, learn how to better manage their stress, and find more balance, meaning, and fulfillment in their lives.

How do you help women edit their lives?

I work with women 1:1 because I really enjoy the relationship that is built through that process of collaboration and support. Here are the general steps that I follow to help my clients figure out what balanced living means to them:

  • Define your vision. What do you really want? What is important to you? Are you clear in your desires?
  • Establish some clear, well-defined goals. Once you are clear on your vision and what you really want, only then can we create some goals that really resonate with you.
  • Eliminate blocks. We identify and eliminate any blocks that you have that are preventing you from getting where you want to go. Negative self-talk? Gone. Millions of excuses why you CAN’T? Let’s wipe them out.
  • Empowerment exercises. Time to get aligned with why you CAN do this.
  • Motivation and accountability. Here is where having a coach really makes a difference. Isn’t it awesome to have someone to check in with regularly to discuss issues that you may have had and how you can overcome them? Or hey, maybe you need that support to cheer you on when you are doing well.

What led you to start your business?

I have been a practicing Mental Health Counselor for almost 10 years, and I have worked in a variety of clinical settings. In recent years, I narrowed my focus and specialized in anxiety disorders, health trauma, and PTSD. I have always been fascinated by neuropsychology, neurobiology, and psychotherapy and how internal stress affects the way the body functions. I truly love working in this field!

But I also describe myself as a recovering stress addict. I used to be that overachieving, nothing-is-ever-good-enough kind of chick, totally stuck on unrealistic expectations of myself–until I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer at age 29 and my whole world came crashing down. This was a definitely a wake-up call for me: my addiction to stress was literally killing me.

Since then it has been a long journey into health and wellness and learning how to heal myself.

Don’t get me wrong: I will always be an ambitious go-getter: it’s just in my DNA!

But I have learned how to calm myself, maintain balance, and tune into my mind, body, and spirit.

I became a registered yoga teacher in 2012 and even spent 6 weeks in India studying the tradition in depth. I continue to practice, study, and learn every day. I have since developed a very unique therapeutic approach in which I combine the ancient traditions of yoga philosophy with the modern applied psychology principles, and I integrate this approach into both my coaching and counseling practices.

I have quite a few tools in my tool belt now and am just really passionate about sharing this knowledge and experience with as many women as I can so that they can learn from my mistakes and live happier, healthier lives. :)

What does an average day look like for you?

My personality requires routine–I don’t function well without it. It doesn’t matter what kind of work I have to do, I need to be up around the same time every day (I usually wake up with the sun, if not a little bit before), eat lunch the same time, and then settle in at night around the same time.

I also need to have the same, regular self-care practices in place. It keeps me sane. I am in front of my computer most of the day, which is not healthy, so I always do some kind of exercise and I make sure to stand up and walk around frequently.

I also have a strict no phone policy in bed at night because more and more scientific research is showing that doing this wreaks havoc on your sleep patterns.

What routines, habits, beliefs, or other things help you live an edited life?

Here are 3 ways that I create balance in my life:

1. I have a morning routine.

I wake up every day and do yoga. What most people don’t know is that yoga is an entire philosophy, a way of life. It is not just the physical practice you see at the studios and gyms. The yoga lifestyle includes breathing practices, physical postures, meditations, detoxification practices, codes for living your best life, and spiritual practices.

I am devoted to the Ashtanga yoga tradition and when doing physical postures, this is the series that I follow (you can learn more about the Ashtanga tradition HERE and HERE). However, this is quite a powerful practice, and since my body is still not fully recovered from the cancer treatment, some mornings I just don’t have it in me. So instead I just meditate, stretch, or breathe.

After that I drink warm water with lemon and look at my daily planner and get my mind set for the day. I don’t need too much structure; I find that actually frustrates me more than helps me. I just need a basic plan of attack for the day.

If I just jump out of bed and GO (which I used to do), I find that it ruins my day. I get cranky, agitated, and don’t handle stress well at all. I need that time in the morning to get my head straight.

2. I don’t overbook!

One thing I have had to overcome is overbooking my schedule. I have a tendency to take on way too much. I want to do too many things and commit to too many events. It is a long-standing habit that I have had to work on reversing for several years.

But once I figured out what was motivating this behavior and was able to finally let go of this bad habit, I became much more balanced. And now I am the opposite: I am super protective of my time and very careful about how I plan my schedule. If I don’t get enough down time, I begin to get chaotic and cranky.

3. I am kind and loving towards myself and others.

For many years, I was overcritical of everything that I did without even realizing it. It was so deeply engrained in my way of being that I had no idea the effects it was having on my physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Nothing was ever good enough, I was never proud of my achievements, and I had a very negative body image.

Once I recognized that I was doing this, I began working towards actively reversing this behavior. This is something that I have to practice every single day–old habits die hard. But what I have realized is this: if I took all the energy I put into hating everything I did and turned it into love and kindness, how much more powerful could I be?

And this positive energy is then felt by everyone around me. Life is much better now that I am actually nice to myself!

Do you have anything to share with my readers?

Yes! I have lots to share!

Life Editor’s Picks: New Year’s Resolutions

$

I can say with complete confidence that you, my dear Life Editor, have made some marvelous new year’s resolutions for 2015. Truly magnificent ones, I’m sure.

After all, you’ve watched my video on Why Resolutions Matter, you’ve downloaded my free worksheet This Year I Will to keep track of your edits, and you’ve read the Best of the Blog from last year so you’re pumped to make big changes!

Right?

Well, if you’re still feeling pokey about your goals—even though it’s been 2015 for 3 week now, people!—I’ve rounded up a few of my very favorite things to give you a nudge in the right direction.

Here are my picks for keeping your new year’s resolutions.

Organize Your Life

1. Gold and Silver Notebooks. Because who doesn’t need more office supplies?

2. Kate Spade Home Desk Organization Tackle Box. Gorgeous and functional.

3. 3-Drawer File Cabinet. Comes in 12 different colors to match any decor. But of course, pink is the best.

Embrace Your Spiritual Side

4. The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson. I say aloud many of these passages during my morning ritual.

5. Fortune Mala. This is the same mala bead necklace my coach gave me for Christmas.

6. 10% Happier by Dan Harris. After having a panic attack during a live taping of Good Morning America (here’s the video), newscaster Dan Harris had to find a way to reduce his stress levels while still being an elite reporter. As someone who has suffered through terrifying and embarrassing panic attacks, I love it that we both stumbled upon the same solution.

Get Fit and Healthy

7. PUSH by Charlene Johnson. Three different friends recommended this book to me, and I love her goal-setting style.

8. Wake-Up Light. For those early morning workouts.

9. New Balance Training Shoes. I love New Balance because they make a bunch of vegan styles in super cute colors.

Start a Business (Finally!)

10. 2015 Edited Year Planner. Shameless self-promotion!

11. Gold Foil “Just Start” Print. No time like the present.

12. The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. Probably the book I recommend more than any other.

Why We Resist Good Advice

$
0
0

As someone who regularly doles out advice and little nuggets of wisdom, I’ve noticed that advice seekers generally fall into 2 distinct categories:

  1. Those who will follow the good advice that’s given to them or come up with their own equally good course of action.
  2. Those who will ignore the good advice and do nothing at all. These folks also tend to complain the loudest when things don’t turn out how they’d like.

Any guesses as to which of these 2 advice seekers I enjoy working with the most?

My clients pay me to advise them, but it’s their choice to either take it or leave it. I don’t mind when someone follows her heart even if it’s not what I would do.

However, it makes my head explode when someone asks for my advice, ignores it, does nothing, and then comes back to me looking for sympathy. Grr!

Some well-intentioned advice is OK to ignore. That’s why we don’t use leaches to treat illnesses anymore (ew!).

But why do we put up a wall when we hear advice that we know in our hearts is good?

Why do we cringe when someone says “Just burn more calories than you consume!” or “Do your most difficult task first thing in the morning!” or “Don’t quit your day job until your business is profitable!”

Reasons Why We Resist

  • We think the advice is dumb or juvenile. Really, you’re not a little kid who needs to be told what to do, right?
  • We’ve tried the advice before, and it didn’t work. Because shouldn’t we get instant results on the first try?
  • We know the advice will work, but we don’t want to put in the effort. Why leave our safe, snuggly comfort zone?

Let’s be honest. Anything worth having is worth working for.
Click To Tweet

Your ideal life (a thriving business or career, a healthy body, a loving family, loads of personal time) is worth the effort.

YOU are worth it.

The Quest for the Magic Pill

We know that actually adhering to good advice will help us reach our goals, but it’s hard to say no to those “magic pills” that promise instant results.

This phenomenon is also called “bright shiny object syndrome,” where you run off after the next thing that catches your eye rather than following through on your current path. Squirrel!

I’ve definitely been guilty of looking for a magic pill or quick fix instead working on my mindset. Once I wrap my head around what it will take to do the work, then I can follow the good advice.

Do you really believe you can lose 50 pounds in a week? No, of course not! But you could waste a week searching the internet for a guru or program that makes a crazy promise like that.

Here’s a better idea: you could lose a few pounds in the same amount of time by taking some good advice like counting your calories with MyFitnessPal or using a pedometer to track your steps.

How to Get Over Yourself

The best way to get over yourself and finally reach your goals is to experiment with the good advice you’ve been hearing.

Examine why you’ve been resisting it. What’s the worst that could happen if you try it out for a while? What’s the best that could happen?

If you suspect you’re resisting it because the advice feels like something you’d tell a child, then ask yourself who you’re rebelling against. Maybe you didn’t want to start a savings account because that’s what your frugal mom would tell you to do. Remind yourself that you’re an adult now, and you’re in control of your own choices.

Are you wishing you had someone in your life who could give you good advice and then hold you accountable as you work towards your goals? I’ve got you covered.

The Life Editor Podcast Ep. 2: 10 Productivity Tips for When You Work From Home

Working from home can seem like a dream come true.

Who wouldn’t want to be able to stay in your jammies all day and watch soap operas while you eat nachos on the couch?

I gotta tell you, I LOVE working from home! It means I no longer have a soul-crushing commute, and I get to cuddle my puppy Skyla during my breaks.

Working from home might have some perks, but it’s also rife with distractions that chip away at your productivity. I’d say it’s much easier for a person who works from home to be sidetracked by chores, personal hobbies, and time wasters than someone who spends her days in a traditional work environment.

If you work from home, don’t let laziness slow down your dreams! It’s all about working smarter, not harder, and you can totally do this.

In this week’s podcast, I’m sharing 10 productivity tips for when you work from home, a self-help book disguised as a diet book, and an easy way to make decisions you’ll never regret.

What We Track, We Can Change

$

Setting goals is the exciting part of being a life editor. Everything’s sparkly and new when you set an intention and say, “This is what I want, baby!”

We’re practically vibrating at the thought of how crazy amazing our lives are going to be. Yeah, just wait ‘til I lose 100 pounds, move to New York, create my business empire, or train a herd of corgis to do my bidding.

I’m an obsessive goal-setter too. Most of the time, it works out in my favor—hello, happy clients! But sometimes it doesn’t—are animal crackers part of a nutritious breakfast?

I get tripped up (and I bet you do too) when I get jazzed about an idea, but I fail to put in the planning or anticipate obstacles along the way.

Vague goals lead to vague results.
Click To Tweet

A no-brainer way to actually make changes that stick is to create a system to track your edits. After all, what we track, we can change.

How will you figure out if you’re headed in the right direction if you don’t know if you’re making progress?

Here’s your life editing homework: Try the following steps to accurately measure what you want to change.

Get a Tracker

Find something to keep track of what you’re measuring. It could be a simple notebook or a complex app or program. You choose whatever format you’ll be most likely to stick with.

For me, I use my Master Action Plan for most things I’m tracking in my life. It’s clean, simple, and I’m better able to keep the promises I make to myself when I write them down in my own handwriting.

Take Before Measurements

OK, so it may be a little embarrassing to take before measurements, but don’t skip this step! In a few weeks or months, you’ll want to be able to look back at your progress and feel good about how far you’ve come.

For example, these baseline measurements might be your weight and caloric intake if you’re trying to lose weight, the amount of money in your savings account if you’re saving for a house, or the number of subscribers on your newsletter list if you want to grow your business following.

Choose an Outcome

Once you know where you’re at now, then you can choose where you want to be as an outcome. Sometimes your outcome might be a single goal that you hit once (run a marathon) or a goal you want to consistently keep up (run a marathon every 3 months forever).

I recommend choosing an outcome that stretches you slightly out of your comfort zone. Imagine that you’re 3 steps away from your comfort zone, not that your comfort zone is 3 miles away. Baby steps, people.

Choose a Timeline

Here’s where it gets a little tricky. Sometimes you’ll overestimate the time it will take you to reach a goal, and sometimes you’ll underestimate.

Consider if you’ve ever tried to accomplish this thing before. How long did it take you to reach a benchmark such as lose 5 pounds or sell 10 copies of your book?

If you have no idea how much time to give yourself, start with 3 months and see how close or far away you get to your ultimate goal. You can always look back at your tracker and re-evaluate your goal.

In my experience, 3 months (or 90 days) is the perfect amount of time to really make some noticeable progress on any goal. That’s why I work with my clients for a minimum of 3 months.

Track Weekly for Best Results

Tracking your progress can become an obsession if you let it! To avoid driving yourself nuts, I suggest checking your measurements only once per week. I know that might seem like a long time to wait, but it’ll benefit you in the end.

Looking at your stats once a week will help you stay sane and not go nuts over every little fluctuation. If you’ve ever tried to lose weight, then you know what I’m talking about. It’s the same with tracking newsletter subscribers—some people will join while others unsubscribe.

Give yourself a week to see the true trajectory.

Adjust Your Goals and Actions as Needed

Like I mentioned above, you’ll want to look over your measurements and determine if you need to edit your goals or try something new. Obviously, you’ll want to switch up your approach if you’re not making any progress.

Let’s say you’re trying to find a new job, but you’re not getting any interviews by submitting 1 job application per day. You could try applying to 3 jobs per day, change your search criteria, update your resume and send a new version, check in with the hiring managers for jobs you’ve applied for, etc.

It’s up to you to get a feel for what the numbers are telling you and then take a new course of action.

My Favorite Trackers

As a self-proclaimed Type A personality, I adore trackers! Here are a few of my faves:

Life Editors Speak Out! 2016 Reader Survey Results

$

I recently posted my 2016 Reader Survey so that I could pick your brain about my business and what you want to see in the future.

More than 100 Life Editors responded, and boy, did you have some strong opinions!

As you know, I work with “ambitious career women,” as I say in my elevator pitch. This means that although I’m a life coach, my favorite women to coach are those who are creatively driven by work.

They could work for other companies, run their own businesses, or do both. We focus on how their work affects every area of their lives and how life editing can give you that perfect balance of happiness.

Here’s a quickie recap:

Short and Sweet Survey Summary

  • My average follower is 10-15 years older than me.
  • Most have been following me for less than a year.
  • You want more life stuff such as behind-the-scenes looks at what I do when I’m not working.
  • You want me to tone down the business stuff slightly. Or do more business stuff. The responses were a bit all over the place.
  • You stick around because of my personality and freebies.

Check out the full survey results below, and be sure to leave me a note in the comments if you’ve got some feedback for me.

Location

  • 68% United States of America
  • 14% Canada
  • 11% Europe
  • 6% Australia and New Zealand
  • 1% Other

Age

  • 2% 19 or under
  • 5% 20-29
  • 34% 30-39
  • 35% 40-49
  • 20% 50-59
  • 4% 60 or over

Which social media platforms do you use regularly? They could choose more than one, and these are in order of popularity.

  1. Facebook
  2. Pinterest
  3. Instagram and YouTube (tie)
  4. Twitter
  5. Other (LinkedIn, Meerkat, Telegram, About.me)
  6. Periscope

I recommend that my clients choose 2 social media platforms to be active on and to automate any others they choose. It’s no surprise to me that my active accounts (Facebook and Pinterest) are popular with my readers too.

How would you describe yourself? Here are my favorite responses.

  • A badass obsessed with organization.
  • A woman beginning to take control of her life and creating the dream life for myself.
  • I’m a busy mom who loves my family but I’ve let my business fall by the wayside. I know I have a lot to offer others and want to come up with different ways to do so as a full-time business.
  • Confident, ambitious, but easily distracted.
  • A disorganized, scatterbrained, always running late, and overcommitted mother of 3, desperate to take back control of my life. I just need to slow my mind down, focus, and start accomplishing.
  • I am a lover of life, a Sprinkler of Fabulousness, a Manifestor of Miracles!
  • Perfectionist and multi-multi-passionate.
  • Creative ball of energy with not much direction!
  • Enthusiastic, optimistic, but self-doubting of my own capabilities.

Life Editors are all these things and more! We tend to be highly driven Type A personalities who love systems and structures…even if our perfectionism slows us down at times.

How did you first hear about me and my business?

  • 20% Pinterest
  • 16% CreativeLive
  • 16% Google search
  • 14% Facebook

  • 35% 2-6 months
  • 6% 7-12 months
  • 18% About a year
  • 20% 1-2 years
  • 14% 2-3 years
  • 3% 4-5 years

I was surprised by how many newbies are here. Welcome to the party! And thank goodness only a few of you have been here long enough to remember when this used to be a fashion blog. (Let us never speak of it again.)

What is the #1 reason you follow me and my business?

  • 24% Productivity and time management advice
  • 20% Personality
  • 19% Life advice
  • 13% Free stuff
  • 12% Blog posts
  • 8% Business advice
  • 4% Other (all of the above)

Proof that I don’t need to be original or stress out about being perfect. I just need to be me.

What is the biggest benefit you’ve gotten from life editing? Here are my favorite responses.

  • Changes are beneficial if done in an organizational manner! And organizing CAN be FUN!
  • The encouragement to offer my first 1:1 calls and the support from the LEFB group.
  • The realization that the editing skills I use when writing can be applied other aspects of my life to improve my effectiveness and joy.
  • With life editing, I’m able to set priorities in such a way that I use my time effectively and focus on what’s important and will yield results.
  • GOALS & all your tips! Like what to write down, how to enjoy my life, how to move forward with my career and the BEST–your complementary calls.
  • Feeling validated that being organized is a positive source of empowerment.
  • Learning more deeply about, and implementing, white space. :)
  • The brain dump and making sure your to-do list is matched with you goals.
  • Taking back my health by eliminating stressful clients and people from my life.

What type of content do you want to see more of? They could choose more than one, and these are in order of popularity.

  1. Productivity and time management advice
  2. General life advice
  3. Behind-the-scenes look at my real life
  4. Business advice
  5. Money advice
  6. Health and fitness advice
  7. Career advice
  8. Relationship advice
  9. Other (retirement transition, content creation, finding your passion)

This is where things get a little funny. Most of you want more general life advice and self-development tips, but my readers are very divided about business advice. Some can’t get enough, while others want me to avoid business talk altogether!

Of course, I won’t stop sharing how to improve your own business because entrepreneurs are included under “ambitious career women.” But maybe there’s a way to not alienate the corporate ladies.

Have you done Life Editing for Beginners? This course is an intro to the Life Editing Process.

  • 76% No, but I want to
  • 8% Yes, the live group version
  • 8% No, it’s not interesting to me
  • 4% Yes, the Home Study Course
  • 4% Yes, both the live version and the Home Study Course

Have you done Startup In 60? This course helps entrepreneurs go from idea to fully functioning business in 60 days.

  • 67% No, but I want to
  • 31% No, it’s not interesting to me
  • 2% Yes, the live group version

Again, here’s the great divide. Business help or no business help…that is the question.

If I created a brand new course, what topic would make you say, “Finally! I can’t wait to take that course!”

  • 41% A mindset course about fear, self-doubt, and impostor syndrome
  • 20% A time management and productivity course without the business stuff
  • 14% A course about how to start a coaching business from scratch
  • 10% A money course for entrepreneurs
  • 10% An advanced marketing course for entrepreneurs
  • 5% Other (blogging, content creation)

Looks like we’ll be doing some mindset editing this year. Stay tuned!

If you could wave a magic wand and make me and my business be exactly how you want it to be, what would it look like and what would I be offering? Here are my favorite responses.

  • Step-by-step instructions on how to start a coaching business.
  • More videos.
  • You would be offering more self-help, positive thinking type things.
  • Hard copy versions of the planners.
  • Positive daily affirmations.
  • More free worksheets.
  • Not much to add from me, maybe more pics on Instagram!
  • Some help for women looking to get back to their life after taking time off to raise kids.
  • The same without all the business side of it.
  • Perhaps more focus on business goals.
  • I am amazed at how you keep coming up with such an interesting and versatile stuff! You already are the best!

Again with the business confusion. If I were giving advice to a client, I would say, “OK, your readers are divided. What content do you enjoy creating? Do more of that and let your readers make up their minds about whether they want to continue following you.” And that’s exactly what I’ll do. We’ll have a nice blend of life and business content.

It wasn’t cost-effective for me to do hard copy printed versions of my planners this year. They could have cost more than $75 each with shipping! But this is definitely on my radar.

Is there anything else you want to tell me? Here are my favorite responses.

  • I have to say, I LOVE your boxes of goodies you send to your clients, and being able to “receive” them in a video is almost as satisfying. OK, maybe not, but it is still fun and educational to see what you have planned for the month. :-) Thank You again. <3
  • You are an inspiration and one of an elite group of women who are changing the options for women of all ages today.
  • You seem to have a bubbly personality, you are succinct in your information, and your writing style allows for easy reading. I have enjoyed the content that I have delved into thus far, and I can’t wait to organize this so I can easily access your information and begin putting it to great use!
  • I am a horrible procrastinator. One of the reasons I haven’t purchased any courses yet because I know I won’t use them yet. I am more a window shopper right now.
  • I love you, Sage!

Aw, shucks. You’re making me blush. :)

Thanks again to all of you who took the time to answer the survey questions. Your feedback is hugely important to me, and I couldn’t do this without you lovely Life Editors.

What do you want to see this year?

In the comments below, tell me what kind of content would help you edit your life.

3 Awesome Benefits of a Mastermind Group

$
0
0

Years ago when I started my business, I remember reading a bunch of articles stressing the importance of mastermind groups.

At first, I didn’t understand what “mastermind” meant. Wasn’t that a retro board game where you make patterns with colored pegs?

But I soon learned that a mastermind is a group of people who come together to share ideas to achieve a common goal.

If you’re considered one mind, then a mastermind is a collection of many minds.

You might be in a mastermind group of entrepreneurs who are growing their businesses. Or maybe a group of health buffs who are trying to get into the best shape of their lives. Or maybe a group of moms who are learning how to be better parents.

I’ve been in several different mastermind groups, and I’m always amazed at the smart ideas that pop up when women work together. We can do more as a team than we can alone!

One of the things I’m most proud of for my upcoming live event, Life Editor Weekend is that we’re creating a mastermind group of 50 Life Editors!

For 4 days here in sunny Orlando, Florida, we’ll be dreaming and scheming as we edit our lives together in an atmosphere of fun, creativity, and mutual respect.

A mastermind group can help you reach new heights of success that would be out of your grasp on your own.

Here are 3 awesome benefits of a mastermind group.

You See Other Unique Viewpoints

You have a limited understanding of the world based on where you live, how you were raised, your beliefs, your experiences, and more. When you approach a problem such as “How do I earn more money?” you’ll only be able to pull solutions from what you already know.

A mastermind group opens you up to viewpoints of a completely different nature.

Your group members might live on the other side of the world, have more or less experience than you, be younger or older, come from a different culture, or have personality traits that challenge your old ways of thinking.

You Choose Bigger Goals

Have you ever done an exercise video in your home? They’re fun and convenient; however, you’ve probably noticed that you’ll work out harder and longer if you take an exercise class at the gym.

Why is that? We instinctively choose bigger goals and push ourselves more when we know other people are watching.

A mastermind group creates instant accountability. Your teammates will let you know if your goals seem wimpy. It feels easier to take on complicated projects when you know they’ve got your back.

You’re Supported When Things Get Tough

Let’s face it, no matter how much we hustle while editing our lives, sometimes we’ll fail. You might get sick, or miss a goal, or make a mistake.

You’re a human being, and it’s normal to face obstacles and challenges.

A mastermind group will support you when you’re feeling lousy about yourself. They’ll remind you of all the progress you’ve made and that you can always bounce back and try again.

I’ve seen too many people give up on their dreams simply because they didn’t have anyone supporting them. Don’t let this be you!

Early Bird Tickets for Life Editor Weekend fly away on April 30. That’s tomorrow!

Are you still not sure if Life Editor Weekend is right for you? Check out these frequently asked questions below.

What will you be teaching at the event?

You’ll learn how to apply the 5-step Life Editing Process to your life so that you can become the best version of yourself. Many of my followers have their own businesses, but that is not a requirement.

Here’s a tentative agenda:

  • How to develop a gratitude practice that isn’t boring or difficult.
  • How to delete bad influences and toxic relationships.
  • How to define your personal boundaries and standards.
  • How to create good habits that stick.
  • How to rearrange your schedule so everything gets done.
  • How to make time to start or grow your business.
  • How to improve your money mindset and attract abundance.
  • How to make white space for your personal self-care every day.
  • How to bust through your upper limit problems.

What’s included in the ticket price?

See the “Here’s What You Get!” list on the sales page for everything that’s included. Basically, 90% of the food, activities, and goodies are covered in the ticket price. You are responsible for your hotel room, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday, and your transportation to Orlando.

How many tickets are available for the event?

Due to the size of the venue and the activities we have planned, there are only 50 tickets available for Life Editor Weekend. This event will sell out, so grab your ticket before they’re gone! Click here to get your ticket.

Will the ticket price increase as we get closer to the event?

Yes, the ticket price will slowly increase over the next few months. Here are the deadlines:

  • $399 Early Bird Ticket through April 30 (or until the event is sold out)
  • $599 Ticket through June 30 (or until the event is sold out)
  • $799 Ticket through August 31 (or until the event is sold out)

Don’t delay! You can save up to $400 by purchasing your ticket now.

How do I purchase a ticket and reserve my spot?

On the sales page are 2 buttons that say BUY NOW. You can choose to pay the full ticket price or pay 5 monthly installments. Click the choice you prefer and you will be redirected to the order form.

After you pay, you’ll receive an email with more information about the preferred airports and how to reserve your hotel room at the reduced rate of $99 per night. You’ll also be given access to the Life Editor Clubhouse. If you choose, you can find a roommate for the event in our private Facebook group.

My friend, sister, daughter, business partner, etc. is coming with me. Can I purchase more than 1 ticket at a time?

Yes! You can change the number of tickets on the order form if you are purchasing someone else’s ticket at the same time. You’ll receive an email closer to the event so that we can get the name(s) of your friends for their badges.

I live outside the US. Can I still come to the event?

Yes! I love my international Life Editors. You’re welcome to party down with us. 🙂

Please note: The ticket price is in US dollars.

I’m not a woman. Can I still come to the event?

Yes! Most of my followers are women, but life editing works for everyone. All genders are welcome.

How do I get my hotel room? Can I split the cost with a roommate?

After you pay for your ticket, you’ll receive an email with more information about the preferred airports and how to reserve your hotel room at the reduced rate of $99 per night. You’ll also be given access to the Life Editor Clubhouse. If you choose, you can find a roommate for the event in our private Facebook group.

Do I have to stay in the hotel?

No, you are not required to stay onsite at Lakeside Inn. However, it will be much easier for you to attend the sessions and connect with your new friends if you get a room at the hotel. After you purchase your event ticket, consider finding a roommate in our private Facebook group so that you can split the cost.

What kind of food is at the event? Can I still come if I have a dietary restriction?

Lakeside Inn has been serving gourmet Southern American cuisine for more than 130 years. There are 4 dining options at the hotel, plus more than a dozen restaurants and cafes within walking distance in Mount Dora.

I’m a vegan, and I can guarantee that there are numerous options to satisfy any kind of dietary restriction or allergies. The hotel also offers in-room refrigerators if you prefer to bring your own food.

When we get closer to the event, you’ll fill out a survey so that I’ll be aware of your dietary needs in advance. That way I can be sure there’s something yummy for you to eat for breakfast and snacks.

What’s the difference between Life Editor Weekend and Life Editor Academy?

Life Editor Weekend is a 4-day live event here in Orlando, Florida. There will be about 50 attendees, and it’s open to anyone who purchases a ticket. There are practical life editing sessions, goal planning, Q&A with me, roundtable discussions, tons of yummy food, relaxing by the lake, dancing like a maniac…and a pajama party!

Life Editor Academy is a 12-month group mastermind program for 10 ambitious women who are ready to go after their goals, make tough choices about what they do and do not want in their lives, get real and raw, and push through every obstacle in their way. Click here for more information.

Can I bring my business partner, spouse, child, dog, etc?

Yes! If your business partner, spouse, or child will be attending the training sessions, then they must purchase a ticket. Simply change the quantity on the order form to purchase more than one ticket at a time. If they will not be attending the sessions, there are numerous fun activities at the hotel and in downtown Mount Dora to keep them entertained.

Lakeside Inn is a pet-friendly hotel. Please mention your pet when you call to reserve your room, and they’ll make sure you get a room in their pet-friendly wing. My dog Skyla had a blast on our last visit!

I’m brand new to life editing. Will I understand what you’re teaching?

Yes. Life Editor Weekend is perfect for newbies and advanced Life Editors. You won’t feel left behind, and you’ll learn a lot from the other attendees when we share our personal stories, successes, and challenges.

I have another question. How can I contact you?

Please send an email to sage@sagegrayson.com.

Could you use more stability in your life?

Would you like a way to feel more connected and present throughout the entire day?

Do you want to feel like you’re starting and ending your day in an optimistic way?

Of course you do!

I’ve found that I’m more focused on my intention for my life when I “bookend” my day.

This means I begin my day with a morning ritual to put me in a positive frame of mind, and I end my day with an evening ritual to tap into that feeling before I go to sleep.

A morning ritual and evening ritual can help you feel in control and centered all day just like bookends supporting a stack of books.

Easy Bookend Ideas

  • Read. When was the last time you picked up a good book? Ease into your day by reading for 30 minutes while you wake up and end your day by reading for another 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
  • Write. I know a lot of creative people who write “morning pages” when they get up. You simply write in a journal without any agenda or specific reason; just getting your thoughts out of your head in a brain dump. And by writing at the end of your day, you get your worries and distractions on paper so you can sleep restfully.
  • Get Spiritual. Take a few minutes to pray, meditate, or sit quietly in the morning and again at night to connect with your spirit.
  • Exercise. Couldn’t forget about this one! If you don’t have time for an hour of exercise during your day, split up your workout into two 30-minute sessions.
  • Connect. Spend time with your loved ones at the beginning and end of your day. If you can’t physically be near them, pick up the phone and give them a call or a quick text.

Need some balance? Bookend your day with positive morning and evening rituals.
